McDonnell Douglas Phantom FG.1 (XV582 ‘M’). This airframe first flew in January 1969 and entered service with the RAF in May of the same year. Spent its whole service life at RAF Leuchars with No. 43 Sqn, 111 Sqn and the 228 OCU. When serving with No. 111 Sqn, XV582 was painted black as a tribute to the Squadron's display team ‘The Black Arrows’. The aircraft soon became known as ‘Black Mike’. With limited hours left on the airframe and still sporting the markings of No. 111 Sqn, 228 OCU operated XV582 as a display aircraft for the 1990 airshow season. Final flight was on 22nd September 1990.
