Curtiss D‑III Headless Pusher. The 1911 Curtiss Model D with the engine and propellor behind the pilot's seat was among the first aircraft to be built in any quantity. In November 1910 it was the aircraft type that made the first takeoff from a ship and in January 1911 the first to land on one.
