Supermarine Spitfire Mk.1a (P9444 ‘RN‑D’). This airframe in the markings of RAF No. 72 Squadron, was built in 1940 by Supermarine Aviation at the Woolston Works, Southampton. It first flew in April of the same year at Eastleigh, Hampshire.
